A RAR file is an archive that bundles files and may compress them or split them into parts. Open it with a compatible extractor. In Seedr, import the archive, use Extract and wait for the task to finish before opening the extracted files.

What the archive contains

RAR bundles files and can divide an archive into multiple volumes. It can also use passwords. Compression does not guarantee a smaller result for media that is already compressed, and a missing part can prevent the entire archive from opening.

Extract in Seedr

  1. Upload the archive or add a supported source link.

  2. Wait for the complete archive, including every multipart volume, to arrive.

  3. Use the file menu and choose Extract.

  4. Wait for the extraction task, then open the output folder and download or view the files you need.

If extraction fails

Check that every part is present and that the transfer completed. A password-protected or damaged archive may need a compatible desktop extractor and the correct password. Do not assume an archive is safe because it is stored in the cloud.

Other ways to open RAR

A compatible desktop extractor such as 7-Zip can unpack RAR files when installation is allowed. Use the software publisher's supported version and retain the archive until the extracted result has been checked.

Seedr's current file-tools notes place archive extraction and creation in the paid Tools feature. Check the controls available in your account; a free account alone does not establish access to this operation.

Check the archive before extraction

  • Keep every part of a multipart archive together and preserve the original names.

  • Allow space for the archive and its extracted contents. Compressed video may not shrink much further.

  • If extraction fails, check for a missing part, a password or an incomplete transfer. Do not run unknown executable files.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need WinRAR specifically?

No. Other compatible extractors exist, including 7-Zip. In Seedr, use the supported cloud extraction route described in the linked guide.

Will one part of a split RAR open on its own?

Usually not. Obtain the complete set of parts before trying to extract it.
