How to free up phone or laptop storage without losing files

Free up phone or laptop storage by copying files elsewhere, verifying the destination and only then deleting local copies. Seedr can hold files you access online, but irreplaceable material still needs an independent backup and offline files still use device space.
Start with files you can verify
Check which files use the most space on your device.
Copy a small sample to Seedr using the upload controls.
Wait for completion, compare sizes and open the destination copy.
Keep an independent backup of important originals, then remove local copies you no longer need.
Cloud fetching is a different route
For a file already available through a supported online link, Seedr can fetch it directly. A local photo or recording still has to upload over your connection. Neither route replaces a backup strategy for material you cannot recreate.
Keep only what you need offline
Seedr's published offline guide describes a V2 Premium feature rolling out gradually. Use the controls available in your account or download a compatible local copy. Test in airplane mode. Local offline files consume space; remove only the local copy when finished, after confirming the action leaves the cloud original intact.
Plan the collection
Compare the actual size of your files with available cloud storage. A free account is not a promise that a particular photo collection or semester of documents will fit.
Verify before deleting
Identify the largest files and copy a small sample to the destination first.
Check file size and open the destination copy before deleting anything locally.
Keep an independent backup of irreplaceable files. An offline copy also consumes device space.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delete a local file as soon as upload starts?
No. Wait for completion and check the destination copy. Keep another backup for files you cannot replace.
Is cloud storage the same as a backup?
Not by itself. A backup also needs an independent retained copy and a way to recover from deletion or account loss.
